Forensic use of C-peptide testing
[edit]In the Lucy Letby murder trial, high levels of blood insulin together with trace amounts of C-peptide provided evidence of poisoning by injected insulin, since normally the two compounds are correlated in amounts.
"In the very last paragraph of Child F’s discharge letter was a line about his insulin level and the level of another hormone called C-peptide. In normal readings, the insulin level would be between 200 and 300. For Child F it was 4,657. The results also showed a very low C-peptide level. It was conclusive proof that he had been poisoned."

"With the now appearant rapid rise of type 2 diabetes in children, it may be that most of the so-called type 1's may actually have had type 2 diabetes all along. Type 2 diabetes is caused by insulin resistance. Most "type 1" insulin using diabetics have never been C-peptide tested. " Removed this section as it is obviously supposition. 203.45.91.199 03:18, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
